Linda Piera-Avila
for
Santa Monica City Council

Ballot Statement
Beautiful Santa Monica has been my home for the past 28 years. I'm also fortunate to work here, serving seniors as a home health physical therapist. Now I would like to serve as a City Councilmember.

On our deepest levels, we are interconnected to each other and all life on this planet. When facing challenging economic times, the power of the community that IS Santa Monica can bring us together to maintain and enhance our quality of life--from addressing traffic and parking to climate change and alternative energy.

In that spirit, I advocate:

    * Significantly expanding community gardens, parks and open space
    * Sustainable living and a healthy environment
    * Limited development that best serves residents
    * Increased bicycle ridership, safety and awareness
    * An Urban Forestry Commission
    * Tenant protection and affordable housing to promote/protect diversity, seniors, families and low-income and middle-class residents
    * Publicly-assisted, community-based child care, after school youth programs and job placement
    * Electoral reforms such as financing elections with "clean money" and empowering residents with ranked choice voting (where voters can rank their choices of candidates)
    * Encouraging women's participation in the public process

I respectfully ask for your vote on November 4th.

“I would’ve listened to the people who came to speak at council meetings requesting modification of the streetscape (plan) to preserve the trees.”

Remember to Vote November 4!
