11/2/08 -  LA Voters For Instant Runoff Elections Founder Endorses Linda Piera-Avila
David Holtzman, the founder of Los Angeles Voters for Instant Runoff Elections (VoteFIRE) is endorsing Linda Piera-Avila for City Council:

“Linda has been a stalwart supporter of having instant runoff elections since before I got involved with the cause.  I'm sure she went to more Santa Monica Ranked Voting (SMRV) meetings than I did, and her election to the Santa Monica City Council could help revive that cause.  Linda came to the Los Angeles City Council meeting last week to speak in favor of IRV in the city of L.A.  She's never ceased supporting ranked choice voting upgrades to election methods, and for that, if you live and vote in Santa Monica, please honor her with a vote.“

11/2/08 - GreenLAGirl Ranks Linda Piera-Avila in Top Four
“GreenLAGirl” (and former LA Times) blogger Siel writes that she plans to vote for Linda Piera-Avila:

“This Green Party member clearly walks the eco walk and has curried favor with the biking community by promising to increase bicycle ridership, safety, and awareness. However, Linda doesn’t seem to have any experience directly working with the city. She also supports Measure T, but was quick to respond to my questions regarding this issue, and diplomatically emphasized the need to move forward together, regardless of the outcome of the vote on Measure T.“

10/29/08 -  SM Daily Press Calls Piera-Avila “Candidate to Watch”
The Santa Monica Daily Press has this to say about Santa Monica City Council candidate Linda Piera-Avila:

Linda Piera-Avila is another candidate to watch. This Pico Neighborhood resident did her homework. She seemed to understands the issues and what City Hall is doing to address them. We suggest she replace Winterer on the Recreation and Parks Commission and work her way up the ladder.“

10/23/08 - SMDP Article on City Council Campaign Finance
According to an article in The Santa Monica Daily Press, “One of the biggest differences between the incumbents and challengers’ campaign finance reports is the contribution from the business community and developers.”  The four incumbents have raised a total of more than $246,000. The article continues: “Linda Piera-Avila, a physical therapist, has raised more than $1,900 as of Sept. 30, bringing in contributions from a fundraising party and e-mail solicitations. ‘I’ve been spending more time talking with voters and studying the issues rather than dialing for dollars,’ she said.”

Linda tells the paper: “There is definitely more work to be done to focus specifically on air pollution issues and the health and well-being of residents.” You can download CRAAP’s endorsement flier here.

10/8/08 - Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution Endorsement
CRAAP, the Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution, has endorsed Linda Piera-Avila for City Council. From the group’s statement:
“After thorough consideration of the candidates’ statements at the Santa Monica City Council forum on Santa Monica Airport (SMO) issues put on by CRAAP Monday, October 6, and to their responses to the four SMO-related questions sent to them in advance, CRAAP strongly endorses Susan Hartley, Linda Piera-Avila, Jerry Rubin, and Ted Winterer as the candidates most capable of representing and carrying out the will of the Santa Monica voters, and as the candidates who are advocating for positive change.

“CRAAP Director, Martin Rubin says, ‘These four candidates will bring back to the Council the energy and direction needed to address the environmental and quality-of-life issues that Santa Monica residents are growing more upset with every passing day... Linda Piera-Avila spoke very knowledgeably and expressed a strong desire to address the communities concerns.’

10/4/08 - Interview with Santa Monica Daily Press
The current issue of the Santa Monica Daily Press features interviews with City Council candidates. Here is a sample from Linda Piera-Avila:

“The biggest threats facing us in Santa Monica are shared by other municipalities in the region: climate change and peak oil and the environmental as well as civil and economic disruption both may cause. If elected I would  promote programs to counter said challenges by expanding the Sustainable City program, including the distributed generation of alternative energy within our community to help us become more locally energy self-reliant and  less dependent upon the energy grid.“
